Annealing Made Perfect Pilots
- Screw in special "Pilots" are needed to anneal cartridges in the Annealing Made Perfect machine.
- Pilots are machined Aluminum and are made so that each cartridge type has the neck/shoulder area of the case placed in the correct location within the annealing machine.
- There is a large range of pilots available from 17 Hornet to 50cal BMG .
- The pilots for the AMP annealing machine are in 'family' of cartridges groups.
- Having the correct pilot for each cartridge is important to position the case neck area correctly in the machine.
- These machined aluminum pilots screw into the top of the AMP machine. These pilots are clearly numbered on top of each pilot.
- Some pilots will do several cartridges. For example #11 pilot suits cartridges like the 308win, 7-08, 243 win, 6.5 and 6 SLR, 260 rem etc.
- Some 'Wildcat" cartridges need a custom pilot.
- New pilots for the 416 Barrett (401) and 50 BMG (501) suit the Mark II annealer only. All other pilots suit both Mark I and Mark II annealers.
- Many pilots suit a 'family' of cartridges. For example the #11 pilot is for 308win. But it is also used for some other cartridges in that same 'family' which are the same case length as the parent case. Like the 243win, 260rem, 7-08, 338win etc. Yet other cartridge 'family groups where the neck/shoulder area is changed will require a different pilot. Example: the 6mmBR 'family' group is pilot #10. Yet the 6mm Dasher cartridge is derived from the BR cartridge but the shoulder position is significantly forward on the Dasher so therefore it needs it's own pilot which is #52.
Please check the list to determine of which pilots are needed to suit your cartridges.
